Workshops

Workshops may be beneficial to people who have completed the Using Your Computer course, or those with computer skills at an intermediate level, rather than beginners.

Either Windows or MacBook laptops may be used. 

Students do need to make sure they bring their passwords and logins with them.

Workshop 1

Word processing– using word processing software Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

You will learn the basics of:

  • Creating documents
  • Inserting pictures/photos
  • Saving files
  • Creating and organising folders
  • Using templates to create invitations, flyers, brochures, etc.

Workshop 2

Spreadsheets– using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

You will learn the basics of:

  • Creating work books 
  • Entering data  
  • Sorting and filtering data 
  • Using cell borders and shading 
  • Creating a simple formula 
  • Creating graphs

Workshop 3

Using the Cloud- accessing OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud.

This includes setting up cloud accounts, saving and retrieving documents.

Workshop 4

Presentations and creating photo displays using Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint and other graphic design software. 

You will learn the basics of:

  • Choosing a theme 
  • Adding a new slide 
  • Creating a presentation with pictures or photos 
  • Adding music

Workshop 5

Google Apps- a look at many of the Google Apps including Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meet, Gemini (AI), Chat, Photos, Forms and Draw. Although some of these apps have been covered in previous workshops, this will give an overall look at Google Apps and how they can be used.
